Local Panel of Exporters
14 May 2015
Season 04 Event 04
Local businessmen Simon Barnett (founder OBO hockey equipment), Craig McDonald (general manager of Prepack), and Rom Rudzki (founder of the New Zealand School of Export) will form a special panel of Manawatu-based exporter entrepreneurs. They will share with Three Keys their highs and lows, learned from personal journeys to success in their respective businesses. The floor will be open for questions so that these three experienced heads can pass on their knowledge to our local network to help them to strive for similar success.
Founded (and later based) in our humble town of Palmerston North, Simon has used his ability to identify ‘niche niche' markets to grow his business into a market leader. OBO designs and produces its products in Palmerston North, exports to 62 countries and supplies 65% of the world's field hockey goalkeepers.Their tag line is ‘good shit that really works'.
Nicknamed the ‘Export Doctor', Rom has spent his career establishing five businesses and two not-for-profit organisations. Seeking to pass on this knowledge he founded the New Zealand School of Export - based right here in the Manawatu - which primarily focuses on exporter growth programs for kiwis seeking to grow their business. Rom was recognised for his pioneering work in all forms of entrepreneurship, with the Financial Times awarding him the David Thomas award in 1996.
With years of experience working with international governments, militaries, humanitarian agencies and commercial businesses Craig understands the needs of his clients. Prepack is a flexible ‘can do' organisation, working with customers to create the perfect package they require - be it military ration packs or humanitarian aid. From Afghanistan to little old Palmerston North, Craig is a man with worldwide vision to burn and is currently managing Prepack in its work with the Australian Defence Force and with growth plans to international markets including the United Nations.
