Season 04 Event 03
Malcolm Rands may be better known as the ‘Ecoman' on TVNZ's Good Morning show, with the beginning of his green career starting when he came across a book about organic farming.
Going from being a full-time, paid rock musician in his early days to now describing himself as a serial entrepreneur, this initial interest in a green lifestyle has now led to a successful international company, ecostore.
Malcolm is a pioneer, establishing New Zealand's first eco-village, Mamaki, which still exists today in Northland. From there, along with his wife, in 1993 they began a mail-order business selling eco-friendly products. This then led to the establishment of a storefront for ecostore in Auckland's Freemans Bay, with world-renowned New Zealand scientist, Sir Ray Avery, coming on board in 2005 to lead product development.
Within 10 years of the company's establishment, ecostore was turning over $1.5million, increasing hugely in recent years. Their products are now sold around the globe, including in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and the United States.
His inspiring journey of taking green global can be explored further in his book ECOMAN - ‘from a garage in Northland to a pioneering global brand', and can also be experienced first hand at this next Three Keys event.
