Comedian, tv personality and mental health campaigner
Thursday 8 February 2018
Location: Hotel Coachman, 140 Fitzherbert Ave, Palmerston North
Mike King made his name as a stand-up comedian before moving to television shows such as Comedy Central, Game of Two Halves, Strassman, TV Bloopers and Practical Jokes, Pulp Comedy and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. He was nominated for the Billy T Award in 1997 and over his career, won the Metro Magazine Peoples’ choice award Comedian of the year 4 times.
Today Mike is more well known for advocating for mental health, and he speaks from experience having revealed in 2006 that he suffered from depression. During his journey through life, he’s bought a travel agency to assure himself of access to drugs, almost died in an Australian hotel (the stay at which was a prize won in a poker championship) and created a national radio show called The Nutters Club.
Mike’s is an engaging story, which he uses to destigmatize mental health, encourage open dialogue and provide tools to help those with mental health issues.
Moana New Zealand are tackling mental wellness head on and designed a roadshow with seven events across the country with Mike. We’re proud topartner with Moana New Zealand to bring Mike to 3Keys for a thoroughly informative afternoon of soft drinks, nibbles, networking and insights.
Please note that out of respect for Mike’s work, we will not be serving alcohol at this event. Instead, we will make a donation to The Key to Life Charitable Trust, for which Mike is a Mental Health Ambassador.
