Balancing relationships between multiple organisations is a difficult task, adding the world's largest exporter of dairy commodities and a government department charged with conserving the natural and historic heritage of New Zealand into the mix makes it even more so. Yet, Nicola Toki has taken the challenge on head-first.
Nicola manages the Living Water Project for the South Island - a 10 year, $20 million partnership between the Department of Conservation and Fonterra. The purpose of Living Water is to achieve measurable ecological improvement and environmental sustainability while demonstrating best practice and working with others.
Prior to her Living Water role, Nicola worked for the Department of Conservation, and Forest & Bird. From 2007-2010 she researched, wrote and presented over 200 episodes of "Meet the Locals", a TVNZ series of mini wildlife documentaries. These experiences cumulate into ten years of working towards the conservation of New Zealand's native wildlife.
