In 2013, Mike Allsop, the self-proclaimed ordinary kiwi, completed 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents, raising over $75,000 for NZ-based charity KidsCan. Proving that this ordinary Kiwi, like any other, can do extraordinary things.
Hearing Mike recount his experiences will take you on a journey of courage and companionship, life and death; including narrowly dodging a fatal avalanche in Peru, nearly being shot in Russia and returning a replica of a stolen Yeti hand to a monastery in Nepal.
Not to mention having reached the summit of Mt Everest earlier in 2007, Mike has since gone on to conquer numerous other mountains, pitting himself against the limits of human endurance and the unpredictable weather conditions that abound at extreme altitudes.
Most recently, Mike returned to the Himalayas to run the world’s highest marathon around Everest – a feat never before attempted. Backed only by a Sherpa team, he trekked to 5,630 metres above sea level. There he ran a distance of 42.2 kilometres (22.6 miles) in temperatures of -30 degC (-22degF), setting a new world record. This feat is captured in the documentary film ‘Chasing Altitude’.
Come along to hear Mike's story and realise there’s no point in wondering ‘what if?’

Silks Lounge, Awapuni Racecourse

From a childhood in Oamaru, to a stint in the Otago busking scene, to the New Zealand Order of Merit - Clinical Psychologist Nigel Latta has had quite the journey.
His professional experience spans across two decades with a focus on forensic psychology, and working alongside young people and their families.
Nigel has a passion for working with kids thrown in the ‘too-hard’ basket, stemming from his early career working in organisations involved in sex offender treatment programmes, family therapy, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Known for delving deep into the key social issues facing New Zealanders, Nigel’s career in broadcasting began by hosting the hugely successful ‘Beyond the Darklands’ series, based on his book ‘Into the Darklands’. Nigel also hosted ‘The Politically Incorrect Guide to Teenagers’ and ‘The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show’; adapted from his books of the same name

He’s been placed on two top 100 global leadership indexes, named as one of the most influential people in technology in New York by Silicon Alley 100, and a ‘New Zealander Leader’ by the Sir Peter Blake Trust - but Derek’s path to success has not always been a smooth one.
At 22 years old, Derek Handley was facing bankruptcy to the tune of $100,000 after a gamble on the stock market fell through. At 30, the 2008 Global Financial Crisis threatened to ruin The Hyperfactory, the award-winning mobile marketing business he had built for over a decade. But it’s been a busy few years. Since selling The Hyperfactory, Derek decided he would use his remaining time and energy on the planet to focus solely on projects, people and companies aiming to do good in the world. This lead to him co-founding The B Team with Sir Richard Branson. The B Team is an advocacy collective with a team of leaders that includes international billionaires, CEOs of global brands, Nobel Laureates and former Prime Ministers. They aim to encourage global business to become a driving force for social, environmental and economic benefit.
Derek is also the founder of The Aera Foundation, a charitable trust investing in causes and companies that address national social issues in imaginative ways. Aera's activities work to create a better New Zealand, and include young leadership fellowships, tackling child hunger, advocating for drug policy reform, and encouraging civic engagement.
He’s won numerous industry awards including: Ernst & Young’s ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’, ‘Distinguished Young Alumni’ of Victoria University of Wellington, and was named Social Innovator in Residence by the Wharton Social Impact Initiative, at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. And Derek’s not done yet.
Come along to Three Keys and be inspired by Derek’s story of resilience - what he’s done, where he’s headed now and how he’s competing on the world stage. You’ll also have the chance to purchase Derek’s recently relaunched book, “Heart to Start” at the event.

Ironwoman
13th July 2017
Treadwell Gordon, Whanganui
12pm
This is the re-scheduled presentation by one of our favourite inspirational speakers, Erica Green. She is back to share her story of overcoming adversity with our Whanganui Three Keys members.
Erica Green, a teacher at Rangitikei College, was told she would never walk again after a dreadful car accident in 1999. Fighting the odds with strength and determination, Erica completed the Ironman in 2007. Her story does not end there, in July 2014 Erica's doctors found a brain tumour which had to be removed. Continually fighting adversity, Erica wanted to repeat her earlier feat. Her next target was the Taupo Ironman in March 2016.
Erica would have us believe she is no different than anyone else, but perhaps this is why her story is so compelling, because she reminds us that, however average we may feel, we all possess the ability to achieve great things.
Erica is sponsored by Kellogg's New Zealand, who are providing mentoring and training by Kiwi 2008 World Ironman Champion triathlete, Terenzo Bozzone.

Diagnosed in his early twenties with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, he found himself dependent on a motorised chair to get around. Unable to walk for more than five or ten minutes at a time; mountains were no longer Nick’s obstacle to overcome.

From entrepreneur to modern day monk - Greg Hopkinson has experienced the type of pressure one would usually associate with any driven business person.
Having co-established a construction business in Russia and later the well-known Animates chain of retail stores back in New Zealand, Greg was no stranger to stress.
As the pressure mounted, Greg began to look for ways to ease the pace of life; he turned to meditation. The change in his life was so profound, he is now a teacher of meditation and is passionate to share ways in which it can help others, particularly those in the business world.
Greg and his partner Sally, also a modern day monk and successful business woman, have travelled broadly to share their knowledge of this non-religious way to live a well-rounded life.
It has also led to a series of consciousness projects including publishing a book and a full feature documentary.
This will be a helpful event for anyone looking for a ways to gain control over the fast paced life we lead.

Whanganui Launch
It's not every day you get the opportunity to have the Prime Minister address and meet an intimate crowd of local business people in Whanganui. It's also not every day that a Three Keys event attracts a crowd of protestors. But all views were welcomed, constructive discussion encouraged and biscuits eaten.
Prime Minister John Key gave an overview of the economic status in New Zealand and candidly answered questions and concerns specific and topical to Whanganui's business community. Such as; funding for the velodrome, the port and whether Air New Zealand will acknowledge flights being available to and from the city via Chatham Airways.
Discussion continued as the Prime Minister stayed to talk individually with members. We're excited at the good conversations this event fostered and grateful to the Whanganui Events Trust for enabling the beginning of Three Keys in Whanganui.
See a journalistic portrayal of the protestors taken by Brad Boniface here.

Ecostore
19 March 2015
Season 04 Event 03
Malcolm Rands may be better known as the ‘Ecoman' on TVNZ's Good Morning show, with the beginning of his green career starting when he came across a book about organic farming.
Going from being a full-time, paid rock musician in his early days to now describing himself as a serial entrepreneur, this initial interest in a green lifestyle has now led to a successful international company, ecostore.
Malcolm is a pioneer, establishing New Zealand's first eco-village, Mamaki, which still exists today in Northland. From there, along with his wife, in 1993 they began a mail-order business selling eco-friendly products. This then led to the establishment of a storefront for ecostore in Auckland's Freemans Bay, with world-renowned New Zealand scientist, Sir Ray Avery, coming on board in 2005 to lead product development.
Within 10 years of the company's establishment, ecostore was turning over $1.5million, increasing hugely in recent years. Their products are now sold around the globe, including in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and the United States.
His inspiring journey of taking green global can be explored further in his book ECOMAN - ‘from a garage in Northland to a pioneering global brand', and can also be experienced first hand at this next Three Keys event.

Liber8me
October 15, 2014
Season 04 Event 02
Laura Humphreys is a successful businesswoman, business mentor and inspirational speaker. Her multi-award winning book Liber8 your Business comes directly from her own business journey. Laura went from a job as a secretary in a London advertising agency to owning her own agency and selling it to multi-national Ogilvy Group just nine years later. She started this business with nothing - no clients, no staff, just a windowless office with no natural light and no running water. When she sold it, it was billing in excess of $15 million and had been named Agency of the Year. The selling of her first business brought Laura financial independence, which meant she was in a position where she could choose how she spent her time.
Laura then co-founded Pet Angels, a highly systemised award winning pet care business, with a fully automated online search and booking facility that minimised admin requirements to the point where the owners only had to work 10 hours a week. This business sold to a competitor after just six years.
Laura is passionate about helping small business owners create a valuable, scalable and ultimately saleable asset - not just a job! She gives regular talks to business groups and mentors business owners about creating freedom from business. Laura's first book, Liber8 your Business is her entrepreneurial response to the need for a practical guide to planning and building a business that will set you financially free.

Politico Event
September 5, 2014
Season 04 Event 01
Three Keys hosted a local Politico Event on Friday 5 September, with a representative of each political party that is in contention for the Palmerston North electorate presenting. The Steelfort Lounge at the FMG Stadium held a 60 strong crowd, keen to hear from the candidates with the General Election approaching fast on 20 September.
The order of the speakers were drawn randomly, with each of the candidates being tasked to speak to Three Key points in six minutes. Pani Farvid spoke for the Internet/Mana Party first, followed by the current standing MP, Labour’s Iain Lees-Galloway, the youngest candidate, Mark Pearce for the Conservatives was third, National’s Jono Naylor fourth, finishing with Rangitikei electorate candidate, Romuald Rudzki for NZ First.
An injection of light humour saw each candidate keeping to the time limit well, with one even managing to get his Three Key points into three minutes. Audience members were invited to text through questions, which started the open floor at the conclusion of presentations; the first of, “What is your stance on capital gains tax and why?”, getting the discussion going. Regional development strategies, tackling youth unemployment, and links between local and central government were just some of the issues raised.
Sky News presenter and political reporter, Natasha Smith, emceed the event; starting with a reminder of how significant the General Election is, as, “Politics is important; these are the people who will get to make choices that will affect you, affect how you want to grow, affect how your business might grow, and affect how the region is going.” Natasha welcomed each candidate with at times, such detailed introductions that the presenters joked that they had little left to add. She also successfully kept the candidates on track, and enjoyed the time keeping role, providing a valid reason to make each speaker to stick to time and straight answers.

Allflex
10 April 2014
Season 03 Event 04

Dubbed by the Farming Show as the unofficial agricultural networker of the year, Shane describes himself as a "get up and have a crack at something sort-of person". Dealing with the best of both worlds, Shane says that he is equally at home in the boardroom, as he is swinging off the end of a hand piece or out ploughing the paddock.
His work takes him across seas, and throughout lands, but his roots remain right here in New Zealand.
